Have you ever experienced a low grade pain for longer than a couple weeks? It can be annoying! It also can make it difficult to be kind and compassionate to others when dealing with this kind of pain. There is actually a term for it called chronic pain. Maybe its in your back, or maybe you suffer from headaches that last weeks. Whatever it is, there is hope for you! Actually what the research says is the happier and more optimistic you are, the less severe the pain is! I dive deeper in this blog to share with you the latest research, personal and professional experiences, and share from my Move Happy®️ community’s stories and wisdom. If you stay all the way to the updates, you’ll find out where we’re at in regards to the Listening Room 🎶 Experience! Enjoy 😉

Way #1: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know what is chronic pain and how can I be happy with it.

I found a short but sweet article from the Happify Health Team on this subject.

I like that they break down simple ways to find happiness despite having to deal with chronic pain.

What stood out to you from the article? Thanks James J. O’Brien III for sharing your thoughts: “Chronic pain has two components, the pain and the suffering of thinking that there will be more pain, a continuation.” Thanks also Rob Sparr , SVP for Happily for your encouragement: “Thanks for sharing Erin.”

Please share your thoughts on the article in the comments ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Way #2: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 😊 Know what does science says about chronic pain and happiness.

I found a great blog from NYC Specialists on this topic. It’s titled: “The Science of Happiness and How It Can Alleviate Chronic Pain.”

What stood out to me was the fact that happiness can help reduce symptoms of rhumatoid arthritis and its severity. Additionally they stated that women breast cancer survivors who saught out social support lived 18 months longer than those that didn’t.

What stood out to you? Thanks John Kirst for your thoughts: “Thank you for sharing the post and article. My wife suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. She goes to the gym and is overall happy. I am guilty of overthinking. I appreciate the suggestions offered in the article. I hope you are having a good day.” Thanks also to Denise Susan Nolan for sharing your thoughts: “Thank you for sharing….Science of Happiness.yes, I can see this…if you are happy you are more focused on your happiness which then you wouldn’t focus so much on your pain……along with plenty of exercise when able…🌺🌺🤗🤗🤗🤗”

Way #3: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 😊 Know what are the global ramifications of chronic pain and happiness.

I found a spectacular review of chronic pain titled: “A review of chronic pain impact on patients, their social environment and the healthcare system.” In the introduction they revealed percentages of different European countries that have chronic pain. They stated 10-30% of European countries have people dealing with chronic pain. That is a lot of people walking around with constant pain.

Have you ever dealt with pain before? Imagine living with it daily and trying to keep a positive attitude. The goal of the study was to describe the effect of CP on the individual, their family and social environment, as well as on the health care system.

What are your thoughts on chronic pain globally? Thank you Sharon Smerek for your thoughts: “Erin , I wouldn’t say my pain is chronic, it is the result of the doctors who could not do an appropriate assessment of my damaged elbow and wrist. The nerve pain is 24/7 and is constantly burning. The schaphoid bones , ulna and radial bones are damaged. I try not to think of other mistakes that may have been done. I live each day at a time. It is difficult. However, I am hanging on , resolution will be here soon. God 🙌🙌🙌. It is the Father holding me together.” Thanks again John Kirst for your thoughts: “Thank you for sharing the post and the link to the article. Two major takeaways for me were the importance of a healthier lifestyle for the patient and the effects of the chronic illness on the family. Ideally, a healthier lifestyle would reduce the effects of the chronic pain. The chronic illness effects the behaviour of the family. It seems like support for both the patient and the family would be beneficial. It would be nice to have a support group for families of chronically ill individuals. My mother in law had COPD. My wife provided support. My mother in law was in physical therapy, but chose not to continue. My wife was supportive and did the best she could for her mother. Thank you for sharing your testimony about chronic back pain. Please consider sharing your perspective and wisdom.”

I’m curious to know your thoughts and any personal or professional stories related to the topic would be great in the comments below ⬇️

Way #4: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♂️ 🙏 😊 Know what are some simple solutions to being happy with chronic pain.

I found a great short article from WebMD . I especially like #9 (massage)!

Which one is your favorite? A very special thank you to those who shared their favorites: Tarique Hossain said: “When you classify it as chronic, it’s either a friend or an enemy forever so you choose who to live with..be friendly and stay happy..” and.. “Annie Wright – The Knee Lady yeah like sometimes being friendly with your enemy helps to reduce the enmity and you end up being friends forever. It helps in the coexistence. Yes like you rightly said be a victim and suffer or live with it happily while controlling it with your calm attitude and medications.” Annie Wright popped in the convo with: “That is such an excellent way to put it Tarique Hossain. or as I put it you can choose to live or be a victim of chronic pain.”

Way #5: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 😊 Know how Move Happy®️ can empower those with chronic pain to find happiness?

I’m proud of a program I designed for my patients in the most sensitive population in the 🌎; a locked psychiatric 🏥. Most of my patients were dealing with some form of chronic pain. They also had been in my hall for at least 6 months and some for 30+ years! Most were overweight or obese, dealing with multiple diagnoses and about 100 feet to walk around but otherwise confined to boring white walls.

My program was designed to get their minds in positive places & improve their fitness. The program was a raging success & we maxed capacity every round we ran it. I actually earned a promotion because of the program & extra duties I volunteered to cover during my workday.

The program is 16 weeks long 4 days a week for about 1 hour per session. I combined a journal prompt, group discussion & workouts with minimal equipment. Patients were excited every day asking in the morning (our group was the last of the day in the afternoon), “What is the workout today?” I also had patients ask for a copy of the journal that couldn’t get into our group because of the Fire Marshall Laws. I know your people (patients, students, staff) will love it too!

You can order your facilitator copy here. If you represent a medical group or hospital setting and want multiple licenses for your practitioners, email me details and we can discuss bulk pricing options (erin@themovehappy .com).

As with all Move Happy®️products/services, 40% of your purchase will be donated to a mental health org of your choice & your local chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Simply email me a copy of your receipt & links to your preferred charities.

So that’s a wrap folks! Chronic pain is inevitable for many. However how we perceive it and respond to it is entirely up to us. The more positive our outlook, the less severe the pain becomes. Exercise can help decrease the severity as well as getting massages and getting plenty of sleep.

I hope this blog added value to you today. If it did, I’d be so grateful if you’d share it with someone you care about.

PS: Don’t forget to tell someone you love them today
