I’ve always been a person who’s always been fascinated by behavior. It never occurred to me that an individual’s emotional state might be caused or persuaded by the contents they consume. I write about mindset a lot and have a background in personal training, teaching fitness and the like.

When I taught more frequently I would get asked on the regular what kinds of foods my clients should consume. Since I’m not a registered dietician I usually give generals that are recommended, like keep your plate balanced with lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Things like that. I never looked into whether these foods had power over one’s mindset until recently.

The following blog is about your mood and how certain foods can enhance your emotional well-being or strip it away. I’ve included what science tells us, some personal and professional stories and some fun giphys to keep things light. If you stay to the end you’ll learn about a program I’m really proud to share. πŸ’œ

Power #2: Foods full of fat and sugar increase the likely-hood of depression and anxiety.⠀

If you plan to have something sweet, go for a piece of fruit instead of a donut or pastry. If you plan to have something fatty, try some nuts or an avocado πŸ₯‘. Dark chocolate is a great alternative as well if you don’t mind the slight bitter aftertaste.

What are some of your favorite alternatives to sweets and fats?

When I was a kid we didn’t go trick or treating like most American kids do. However, I remember going one time with my friend down the street. After eating probably 20 or 30 pieces of candy, I felt so sick to my stomach and sad. At the time I didn’t describe it as depression, but looking back I can totally see how it was possible because of the candy rush in my system. A more moderate approach of 2-3 pieces is a better option than 30 🀣.

Power #4: Staving Off Depression Is Linked To The Mediterranean Diet

The Mediteranean Diet has been recorded as helping stave off depression as it has many fruits, vegetables and whole grains.⠀
⠀
What are your favorite fruits and vegetables?⠀
⠀
I love green beans and bananas but I pretty much eat them all 🀣 ⠀
