Have you ever met someone that had an incredible positive energy that drew you in? I’m talking about the kind of positivity and light that was unmistakable as genuine. Perhaps you heard them speak on stage, or met them in an elevator. Their energy and positive attitude is contagious to say the least! I have met so many positive people throughout my short 3+ decades on this earth. I have also read about incredible people in history that have helped shape countries and moved mountains in their communities.

The following blog is about the unmistakable powerful keys to keeping a positive mindset from what current research states, some personal and professional experiences and if you stay to the end you’ll be able to buy a program I designed for the most sensitive population in the world; a locked psychiatric hospital. If you’re checking the blog out for the VIP concert standing, scroll all the way down to the “Move Happy®️ Updates” to see current download rankings.

Powerful Key #1: 💃🏃‍♀️🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️🙏🧠 Know what it looks like to have a Positive Mindset.

I found a powerful study in first year college students with regards to math anxiety. The study incorporated some mindfulness best practices and by the end of the study found decreased anxiety in students as well as increased self-efficacy (which is the belief in one’s self over a certain category).

Personally, I picked this study because I had a TON of math anxiety growing up. I had a huge transition in 9th grade, my teacher had to leave early for cancer treatment and I had PTSD from my father’s cancer ordeal just 3 short years prior. My abuser was coming home from time overseas and I was afraid they would be harming me if they had a bad day like old times. My replacement teacher was pregnant, hormonal and not a good teacher (she was brand new). I had high expectations of myself and everyone else 😂

Come a few years later I graduate and get my Bachelors in K-12 Health and Fitness and my first job is no joke… 3 middle school math classes and 2 PE classes. 😂 Their teacher had missed over half the first part of the year from cancer treatments and they needed someone stable to come in and help the students. I never taught math in my life and suddenly realized why I had to go through that painful time in 9th grade… so I’d have empathy and compassion for my students that also struggled. I made sure I got to school extra early for those students that needed extra help and stayed late for those that couldn’t get to school early. I became a favored teacher amongst the students and even though I was only there from March-June, a couple of my students were in charge of the yearbook and asked if I would be willing to take a photo and be in the school yearbook #honored

I made sure projects were fun, relevant and combined a variety of domains to help sink content into their long term memory. I also used my resources, like my roommate at the time was a licensed journeyman electrician and very good with math. He suggested I create an assessment to see what the students knew, what they didn’t and what was expected of them to know by the end of the year to help fill in the gaps in the most efficient way possible. I’m glad to say their main teacher was able to return and I didn’t get a chance to stay the following year because he healed #hallelujah.

Powerful Key #2: 💃🏃‍♀️🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️🙏🧠💜 Know what science says about positive mindsets.

I found an interesting article measuring qualitative data from elderly persons in the midwest. They called them and asked how they were coping during COVID and what was helping keep them resilient. 3 themes emerged that solidify my Move Happy®️ Pillars:

1) staying busy,

2) seeking social support, and

3) keeping a positive mindset.

We could argue that staying busy could mean a lot of things and could also mean moving your body 😉 (MH®️ 3rd Pillar). Seeking social support is another way to word Move Happy®️’s second pillar: Community. And Keeping a positive mindset is the exact 1st pillar of Move Happy®️: Mindset. I love that they specified elderly populations because they are sensitive with regards to contracting and not surviving from COVID. However, many of them were hopeful throughout the study and weren’t bothered that they had to stay home. The authors speak about the power of their age as a protector to their mindset from life experiences.

I’m curious what other scientific studies you’ve found that speak on the power of positive mindsets? Share your links and/or stories to instagram and tag us @ TheRealMoveHappy. We’ll share the best insights and stories and give you writer’s credit.

Powerful Key #3: 💃🏃‍♀️🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️🙏🧠💜 Know what is the global importance of having a positive mindset.

I found this really interesting study from India. It’s title is: “Enhancing Relationships in E-tail: Role of Relationship Quality and Duration.” They measured over 600 interactions in internet retail compared to brand love and loyalty. From the abstract here is one finding: “SMART-PLS analysis of survey data from India (n = 644) showed that perceived value, e-service quality, interaction, discounts and transaction related factors were found to have a positive effect on relationship quality (RQ). RQ mediates the relationship between these antecedents and self-brand connect and loyalty.” N=644 means they surveyed 644 people. Those that perceived value, had high service quality online, good interactions with customer service and were provided some sort of discount reported stronger brand loyalty.

Personally, I believe although my followers are a small group of people compared to brands that have been around for hundreds of years, they are extremely loyal. I believe I learned how to build a brand that people love from my father’s sense of loyalty to his customers. At his funeral we heard from customers from his first year in business saying powerful things like, “he knew what sports our kids played and remembered my spouse’s name.” My father was in sales for 40 years. He regularly encouraged me to get into sales after college when the job market was extremely scarce (circa 2008). He told me why I should get into sales time and time again rather than work in what I actually went to school for. He said things like, “Erin you’re persuasive with your mother and I, you don’t quit until you get what you want accomplished, and your work ethic is excellent. Anyone would be honored to have you work for them.”

I’m glad I finally listened to him because I have that gift too, I remember details from people because I honestly care about others. My customers know that when they purchase from any of my products and services I donate 30% back to mental health organizations of their choice and 10% back to their local chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. I don’t really offer discounts on my products and programs because I give away 40% of the profit up front. I have had a handful of loyal fans that help spread the brand because they like my content online, or they like the guests I have on my podcast, or they really believe in my mission to empower those with depression globally to find their own happiness. The clearer you are with the purpose or “why” of your organization, the easier it will be for you to attract the tribe that will support you and spread word about you. It’s how the original Move Happy Group Therapy spread around a locked psychiatric hospital. The patients enjoyed the experience, they felt valued, important and they enjoyed working out with staff.

I’m curious to know your thoughts from the study and/or any ideas and insights you’ve gathered from this. Please snap us your thoughts to @ TheMoveHappy and we’ll snap you back and even screenshot it and share it on social media if it adds incredible value to our community.

Powerful Key #4: 💃🏃‍♀️🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️🙏🧠💜🚨 Might Trigger Some 🚨 Know what some simple solutions to keeping a positive mindset are.

I’m going to give you my top strategies in keeping a positive mindset. Not many people can say they’ve been through what I’ve been through and yes there are always those who have gone through worse than you. However, I am an overcomer of sexual and emotional abuse from 3-5 years of age from a family member. I was raped in college from my boyfriend when we both talked about purity and how I wanted to wait for marriage. The cop put the blame on me by saying, “you don’t want to ruin his career do you?” and I couldn’t talk to therapists in college because they said I’d be kicked out of school if I shared any thoughts of self-harm (though they are totally normal thoughts when dealing with PTSD).

I overcame divorce from a man that moved our entire bank account illegally to a secret account during the divorce and I simultaneously was laid off of my guranteed teaching job and had to figure out how to survive. I had a roommate during that same year get into illicit drugs and threatened to kill me in the middle of the night. I lost my father at 30 years old, divorce finalized 2 ish months prior to, was financially destitute, got engaged WAY too quickly to someone with a TBI who later I found out had major explosive anger issues. I moved across the country to help a family member adjust to single parent life and was forced to move out when they too got into illicit drugs and charged at me in our kitchen when I parked on the wrong side of the driveway.

I had both my businesses compromised from digital attackers and had my home broken into which forced me into safe housing. I was in another state and got stuck because of Covid and unfortunately local authorities didn’t want to show me any support, I actually had a social worker tell me, “you’ll need to find your own resources.” I had tried to submit my computer to the FBI local state’s authority to check who was attacking my technologies and they refused to take my computer telling me I’d have to drive to the National Level FBI in Virginia to submit my evidence during the Pandemic 😢.

My business mentor at that same time called and left a voicemail accusing me of fraud, that I was wasting the resources of the government, that I didn’t matter and that I was blowing things way out of proportion when I turned someone in for pre meditated murder of their family member. She also wanted 100% of my intellectual property for the emotional damage she claimed I put her through.

Needless to say, I’ve been through some shit. However, these 4 things done daily keep me sane, keep me positive, and keep me grounded. Ready?

1) Meditation/Time in The Word,

2) Exercise,

3) Writing (journaling/music),

4) Singing.

I encourage you to find things that help you lose track of time and incorporate meditation and exercise daily into your routine. Share your fun enjoyable activities that you do that help you lose track of time on Tiktok and tag us @ TheRealMoveHappy. A very special congratulations to a few people who have shared this week their tips and contributions on Linkedin and Facebook respectively. Lynette Beavers shared about the power of forgiveness on her mindset. Connect with her here. Kelly Tipton shared a powerful quote from Dieter Uchtdorph “no matter our circumstances, no matter our challenges or trials, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring gratitude and joy if only we would see and appreciate it.” Please connect with her here. Even Dr. M, Senior Lecturer of The Ohio State University jumped in on the weekly topic. Make sure to connect with her here. Charles Robert Philips is my weekly encourager on Facebook. I believe we originally connected on Linkedin but he interacts more on my FB page now. He lives in a close knit community and has a lot of value to share with others. He actually is the one that encouraged me to look into having interns to help focus on sales efforts last year. He is largely the reason I grew from a team of me to a team across 3 continents during the global pandemic. It was a little too fast of growth for me to keep up with when my accounts got compromised and a poisonous person slid their way into my inner circle. However, I appreciate his advice and when the time is right, I’ll be adding interns and/or sales people from the USA to grow my brand more sustainably and work in closer time zones with my team 💜. Powerful Key #5: 💃🏃‍♀️🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️🙏🧠💜 Know how Move Happy®️ can help you gain and maintain a positive mindset.

I’m pumped about a program I designed for my patients in the most sensitive population in the world, a locked psychiatric hospital. Its a 16-week program combining journaling, group discussion and workouts with minimal equipment. The portions that will really help with your mindset are the journal and exercise portions. Both patients and my co-facilitator a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and myself felt happier and had more positive mindsets by the end of the 16 weeks. I even earned a promotion by the 3rd round and had a colleague cover for me. Her name is Sue M (not my boss Sue 😂 we had 3 Sue’s on our team).

Sue M stopped me in the hall one day and thanked me for creating the program and said she loves working out during her work day. She said she’d sub for me any day! She said, so and so patient writes the journal prompt on the board, so and so patient passes out the journals and pencils and so and so who’s always grumpy moderates the conversation and makes sure everyone has a turn to speak and no one gets interrupted! This patient was ‘voluntold’ to join my group to help improve his mood and I’d call that a success!

You can order the Move Happy Facilitator Program©️here if you facilitate group therapy or if you run a hospital and want multiple licenses, email me directly for group rates (bulk discount to erin@themovehappy .com).

Who wants this at their hospital? Please share this blog if I’ve added any value to you❤️.

So there you have it folks. Mindset is a powerful tool that we have the ability to improve. It does take some work on our part. We need to have scheduled morning routines and/or time everyday doing things we enjoy, even if its only for a few minutes. If you’re a business owner and trying to improve your brand loyalty and love, make sure you are engaging with your customers, building quality service experiences and provide discounts when available to help improve their thoughts of your company. If you’re a group therapy facilitator, parent, or other leader in your community, remember to take time for self care and reflection. When you take care of your own mind on a daily basis through music, meditation, exercise, art, or however gets your positive juices flowing, you’ll be in a better mindset to take care of your audience. There is such a thing as burnout. I witnessed it first hand at the psych hospital where I created Move Happy®️ in the first place. Patients didn’t want to give me any feedback at first because they thought I’d take away their 2 fresh air breaks if they said anything negative. That’s illegal by the way, and it told me that people weren’t doing their jobs to the best of their abilities for one reason or another on the wards. Those medical staff had high stress positions and I believe many were burned out and took it out on the patients. I don’t think it was intentional, but regardless we all make choices every day in how we choose to behave. We can make a shift in a moment to a better version of ourselves. I hope this blog has encouraged you to be better and do better.

It would mean the world to me if I added any value to you today if you’d share this blog with someone you care about.

PS: Don’t forget to tell someone you love them today
