Have you ever worked for a rad company? I’m talking a super fun place to work that gets you jumping out of bed excited?! Yeah not too many hands going up in the room…. 🦗. It is possible to LOVE where you work. It all begins with the leadership. People follow leaders that know where they’re headed and lead in a positive clearly communicated way. Not everyone will jive and be besties and that’s okay. The important aspects are people first, values clearly stated, and follow through from the top. People with mental illness have a challenging time as it is dealing with their unseen medical issues. When people work in an environment that feels more threatening than encouraging they lose motivation and drive. The following blog is all about empowering businesses and people to create a culture at work that is inclusive, and people focused. If you stay to the end you’ll read about an offering that I’m really excited about.

Key #1: 💃 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know what it looks like to have collaboration within your organization, and how can it help your employees improve their mental health.

Well, it’s simple, by incorporating collaboration throughout the workplace, employees are feeling seen and accepted. This is why I want to share the positive impact that it can have on you as an employee or as a business owner.

According to an article written by, Mental Health America (MHA), they state the following regarding positive relationships within the workplace.

“Data collected from 17,000 employees who completed MHA’s Work Health Survey showed that 63% of employees experienced isolation because of a hostile work environment, with 63% stating that work stress negatively affected their mental and physical health. Not surprisingly, 71% of employees reported speaking poorly of their organization (including boss and co-workers) and wanting to leave their jobs. For many employees, the workplace feels uncertain, isolating, and unsupportive.”

What this quote is saying is that a majority of people are not feeling accepted and that their workplace is not a healthy environment, which hurts their mental health.

Emma, my Head of Creative, shared this story with me about a negative time she had in the workplace.

“I remember feeling attacked and outcast because I stood up for what was right. I remember being verbally abused when I did my job right and well, and I remember how much I hated to go to work. Every day I cried after work until the day I no longer worked there.”

The majority of people have had at least one or more instances where they didn’t like where they were working, and their workplace ended up having an impact on their mental health.

Key #2: 💃🏽 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know what are some signs that your organization’s culture needs help.

If you’re noticing that projects or expectations are overdue or your teams are not collaborating at all, then I want to encourage you to take a look at the culture within your workplace.

Inc. com believes that we need to learn to manage our culture before it ends up managing us.

“Companies encounter external roadblocks to success all the time, from the competitive landscape to market disruption to changes in customer expectations. These affect company performance, often prompting a company to shift its strategy or priorities quickly to make up the difference. Some roadblocks, however, are symptoms of internal problems lurking in a company’s culture. Spot these common warning signs that your culture is working against you before they threaten the long-term success of your company–and you as a leader.”

Culture is one of the most important aspects of a business, because if there’s a toxic atmosphere, then it can affect the business as a whole.

If the positive culture ends up breaking apart, it can crush a business.

That being said, how do you see the culture in your workplace?

In your opinion, does it help to shape the company, or is it just something people think is important? Tag us in your Instagram Stories an image of your culture or what you’d want your company culture to look like @TheRealMoveHappy. We’ll share it to our community and give you credit!

Key #3: 💃🏽 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know What the Global Impact is on toxic work environments for your bottom line.

In an article by Business Wire, they shared a survey that shows how toxic cultures in the workplace is becoming a Global Problem.

Business Wire stated the following:

“The findings from this survey are startling. Toxic workplace cultures are pervasive and it is critically important that organizations address workplace toxicity, as failing to do so can have far-reaching impacts for an organization,” said Elizabeth Owens Bille, J.D., SHRM-SCP, Head of Impact, Workplace Culture, EVERFI.

Furthermore, “Toxic cultures and harassment can lead to turnover, absenteeism, lost productivity, inability to recruit top talent, and the like, so the stakes are high for organizations to act to prevent these damaging behaviors from happening in their workplace.”

I know that working in a toxic work environment is difficult, we’ve all been there, but that doesn’t mean that needs to continue.

You can be the person that is the light in the darkness. It can be easier said than done, I know, but you got this.

Key #4: 💃🏽 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know what causes a toxic work environment.

Several things can cause a workplace to turn toxic, but I want to share one that I think plays a big role in it:

😡 Not having your core values written 😢

When a company doesn’t know what their core values are, or does not provide them to their employees, they can’t expect others within the company to know them.

By having these values written down, and given to the employees, it can help them see the foundation of the company and the expectations that the employers have of the employees.

Core values help employees know whether or not they align with the the company before taking a job, which can help to prevent frustrations on both ends.

I know that for Move Happy®️, having core values that I can share with my Head of Creative, but then also use them to create a foundation for my business will be a decision that I’ll never regret.

Has your company shared its core values with you before? Tag us in your TikTok @TheRealMoveHappy with your company values or what values you’d LOVE to have as a part of an organization. We’ll duet you to our community and give you writer’s credit!

Key #5: 💃🏽 🏃‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🙏 Know How Move Happy®️Can Help Companies With Work Culture.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that $1 trillion dollars is lost annually due to lack of productivity from employees specifically diagnosed with depression and anxiety and not receiving adequate resources from their workplace.

I designed a solution to help decrease this statistic.

“Work Happy: The Practical Tools For Effective and Inclusive Workplaces©” is in beta.

Employees will benefit from this because the workshop is designed with you as the main focus in a positive manner.

Employers will benefit from this because people that are cared for work harder and take less sick days, thus increasing your bottom line 💰.

The workshop includes a follow up refresher (2 days total).

Next 2 businesses/EAPs to sign up get prioritized scheduling.

So there you have it folks. Work culture can be improved upon and productivity can be magnified. It takes work from the leadership and a willingness to change directions. Companies should take responsibility for their company and are willing to make changes based on the feedback of their employees. If you’re not sure how to get feedback from employees or feeling stuck, do not hesitate to reach out for support. Together we can make a dent in the $1 trillion lost annually if we make a pact to create work environments that are more inclusive for people with depression and anxiety to feel safe and welcomed.

If this blog brought you any value today, I would be honored if you’d share it with a friend or family member.
