Do you or someone you know have anxiety and asthma? It can be debilitating and scary; especially with the Corona Virus ๐Ÿฆ  going on. I’ve known personally the challenge of having anxiety can be to my well-being. I didn’t know I had asthma until I was 25 years old. I decided to study asthma in graduate school as my Masters Project. I studied it so much I started writing songs about the information ๐Ÿ˜‚. It is a LOT to take in! The following blog is all about asthma and anxiety from a medical standpoint, and personal experience. If you stay to the end you’ll read about a devotional I designed to help empower myself through challenging times.

#1 Essential: ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ Know what it looks like to have anxiety and asthma.

Are you wondering how to find your inner calm? I know that it can be sometimes difficult to manage your symptoms. Anyone that struggles with anxiety knows that it can seem impossible to catch your breath when you’re anxious, but even more so when you struggle with asthma as well.ย

This is why mindfulness is beneficial to both anxiety and asthma. The reason being is because, on VeryWell Health, they talk about how stress and anxiety can increase inflammation, which can increase asthma symptoms as well. By increasing the practice of mindfulness, it can help reduce these symptoms, VeryWell said, โ€œMindfulness techniques to promote openness and acceptance have been advocated as a way to decrease stress and resulting inflammation. Given the relationship between inflammation and asthma control, the benefits of a meditation program are obvious if the techniques are effective.โ€ย

You might be thinking that there is only one correct way of mindfulness, but that’s far from the truth, so find something that works well for you. Whether thatโ€™s guided imagery, where youโ€™re given a specific scene that helps to distract you from the negative emotions, which helps to decrease your anxiety and heart rate.

Another example of mindfulness is taking a moment to focus on the atmosphere around you. Then once you find it, take some deep breaths.

#2 Essential: ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ย  What are some signs and symptoms of asthma induces anxiety or vice versa?

Often, people with asthma notice that their symptoms end up becoming worse when they’re anxious or stressed.ย

According to Medical News Today, learning to keep anxiety and panic attacks at bay, then you’ll have a better chance of not having an anxiety-induced asthma attack.ย

Even though anxiety can worsen asthma symptoms, they are still the normal symptoms that come with having asthma. Those symptoms are the following: tightness in the chest, wheezing, trouble or rapid breathing, coughing, and shortness of breath.

#3 Essential: ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ย  What is Global Prevalence when it comes to anxiety and asthma?

According to Science Direct, there was a study performed to see if there was a connection between asthma and mental health, and the results were interesting.

Science Direct said the following about their conclusion, “Anxiety disorders, in particular Lifetime Anxiety Disorders, represent the only psychiatric disorder significantly associated with asthma, with a possible bidirectional, anxiety-asthma relationship, each of which can be caused or result from the other.” Anxiety was the only psychiatric disorder that had a strong correlation with asthma.

#4 Essential: ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ What are the possible causes and some solutions to anxiety and asthma?

There could be several different causes for anxiety and asthma since everyone is unique, but I found something interesting during my research on Healthline that I wanted to share.

Healthline said the following: “There is ongoing research as to the exact role of stress and stress hormones in asthma. Stress does appear to trigger asthma attacks in some people. One study found a significant stressful life experience, such as the death of a close family member, increased the risk of an asthma attack by nearly twofold in children with asthma. Research has also shown that the bodyโ€™s response to stress triggers the immune system and causes the release of certain hormones. This can lead to inflammation within the airways of the lungs, triggering an asthma attack.”ย

Even though there is an ongoing study regarding how anxiety and asthma correlate together, I wanted to share this with you. I know that it can be stressful dealing with this, so I hope that it brought you some comfort. Remember, everyone is different and unique, so you must talk to your doctor more about this.

#5 Essential: ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ How can Move Happyยฎ๏ธ help you if youโ€™ve got anxiety and asthma?

If right now you’re struggling, I want you to know that I understand what you’re feeling. I’ve been there before, but I was able to overcome it, and so can you.ย

I wanted to share a prayer affirmation journal that I created when I was going through a difficult time. This journal has entries from a two-year process of going through a divorce, being simultaneously unemployed, moving over 12 times, being forced to Craigโ€™s List search for a roommate, being threatened for my life from that roommate, and yet through it all, keeping a positive mindset and writing prayers thanking God for providing a silver lining through it all.ย

I turned the journal entries into a daily devotional in hopes of inspiring you no matter how bad your life seems right now. Iโ€™m praying for you, and remember that you’re never alone.

Who has read the Prayer Affirmations Journal already and has some positive things to share? Please share your feedback with us via Twitter @MoveHappyTeam and we’ll retweet your reviews ๐Ÿ˜‰

So there you have it folks. Anxiety and asthma are no joke. They both can be debilitating and they both can also create the most empathic human beings. As an individual who struggles with both conditions, it is tough some days. When there is a lot of personal/family stress going on, it can exacerbate my conditions. When the pollen is worse it can affect my breathing and anxiety levels. I have had to learn how to calm my breathing, how to avoid going outside sometimes and keep myself preoccupied. I have also learned the power of exercise (specially cardio) and its positive effects on both anxiety and asthma. There are considerations to include like making sure the warm-up is 10-15 minutes instead of a traditional 3-5min for most people.

If this blog provided you any value today I would be so honored and grateful if you would share it with a friend or family member.
