Do you remember when you were little playing with dolls or G.I. Joes and making up story lines with your best friend? Joe’s going camping and he needs to pack up the van. They need to light up the camp fire ⛺️ 🔥 and set up tent. Barbie and her friends are watching the kiddos and about to go swim 🏊‍♀️ in the lake. Imagination and creativity started a long time ago.

It allows us to get out of sticky situations with more fluidity. Having an imagination can open up work place opportunities and promotions within. It can also provide a more creative outlet in the school systems for struggling students (on either side of the spectrum- bored out of their minds advanced, or those that need a little extra support).

I grew up in a very creative home. We didn’t have a lot of financial resources and the school district wasn’t the best in the world, but it was where we could afford to live with a single income earner for a family of 5 (mom went back to work when I got into high school, I’m the baby too).

Mom had a teaching certificate and a music performance degree. She looked at the success of the district and knew with her educational background that she could do better in our elementary years than any teacher could sharing us with the 27 other students, and decided to home school us. That opened up more opportunities for us to have some creative outlets from field trips, home school group connections at the local church with other creative kids, and access to music anytime we wanted (we had a piano in the house).

The following blog incorporates stories from my upbringing, family inspired creativity, what science tells us about creativity and happiness and if you stay to the end, a program I created that I’m really proud to share with you.

That’s me in dad’s lap, and my familia 😂

Magical Step #1: Using Resources To Recharge Your Creativity

Check out this dope article on creative life hacks. I especially love #13 on the weekends when I’m writing my blog and recharging from the week. Comment below with your favorite life hack ⬇️ ⠀

Magical Step #2: Start Somewhere – Don’t be afraid to Make A Mistake

Don’t be afraid to start somewhere.⠀
⠀
When I write music, I start with a few words or a few music lines and it usually is kinda sucky, like real sucky.⠀
⠀
But I keep at it..⠀
⠀
Eventually I refine it and the more often I do this practice, the easier and faster it is to write music, or curriculum, or anything I work on..⠀
⠀
When you do it often enough, you can get into a flow state…⠀
⠀
But in order to do that, you have to start somewhere.⠀
⠀
Some of us get too caught up in being perfect and don’t want to suck first.⠀
⠀
Just remember, everyone started with 0 of something and grew from there. Comment below on what your’e going to start with today ⬇️ ⠀
⠀
For me? I’m starting to learn a new song on the keys for my random Facebook concert coming up soon!⠀
⠀

Magical Step #3: Have A Morning Routine To Set The Creative Mood

I practice The Miracle Morning Method from Hal Elrod.⠀I do a combo and run 3-4 days a week listening to sounds from Spotify.⠀About 20-30min in my run 🏃‍♀️ I get into theta state and that’s when the creative ideas start to flow.⠀Sometimes it’s business ideas, sometimes its relationship resolutions at work or home, sometimes its recreational ideas of new fun things I want to do in life.⠀
⠀
Get a routine, establish it and you’ll notice your creativity growing exponentially.⠀

Magical Step #4: When Leading Groups, Use Your Resources To Enhance Creativity

I truly believe that being creative is a culmination of learning from others of what to do and what not to do, and from your own experiences and joys/frustrations.⠀
⠀
Take a look at my brother and niece’s YouTube Channel “V&Me.” You’ll love it if you have little kids, especially girls at home.⠀
⠀
She’s 7 and they’ve been doing it for a couple years now. My brother definitely helps her with what to do on video but he’s doing less and less directing these days and letting her take the reign because he’s coached her for so long.⠀He never forces her and she asks to do it!⠀
⠀
She’s got a few million views on each vid it’s cray 🙌. I’m so proud of her! She’s making her great grandma so proud in heaven ♥️ .

The other day she and I had some girl time and she wanted me to be the judge on a cooking contest show (she made up the plot entirely). She told me, “Auntie, Don’t be easy on me” 😂. Kid you’re 7, of course I’m going to be easy on you. She is doing her contesting and cooking and telling me what she’s making (imaginary entirely). Then she changes characters, changes voices as well for the new character, and I say “commercial break” because I had to use the restroom.

My niece and my bro Josh 😊. She loves her daddy

All of a sudden she starts doing a commercial for a product to keep your vehicle clean 😂. I about peed my pants 👖. She truly has a gift and also enough hours watching ads on YouTube I’m sure that she’s now applied it to her acting skills. You definitely need to check out her and her dad’s YouTube channel if you haven’t yet, just for the sake of enjoyment, a little kid humor and great examples of creativity on the fly (they do a lot of improv recording).

Magical Step #5: The Move Happy Facilitator Program© Was Created With The Intent to Tap Into Adult’s Forgotten Creativity Side

My Move Happy Facilitator Program Teaches On Being More Creative⠀⠀
⠀⠀ It’s a 16-week Program combining:⠀⠀
⠀⠀
📓  Journaling⠀⠀
Group Discussion⠀⠀
Workouts 💪  With Minimal Equipment⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It includes questionnaires for both psychological and fitness that I designed (simple 1-pagers when all other questionnaires were a zillion questions)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Originally I created this program for my adult patients in a live-in psychiatric hospital (mostly men were there, ages 20s-70s, mostly obese/morbidly obese, but a few fit people so I modified all exercises depending on their ability on the spot and have modified all exercise moves in the demo videos you’ll get access to).⠀⠀
⠀⠀
We specifically went over creativity within the program⠀during journaling and group discussion time.⠀
⠀⠀
Each week has different topics we’d journal about that you can use to help move your patients/students/athletes towards their own happiness.⠀I’m so excited to share it with you!⠀⠀
⠀⠀

So there you have it folks. That in a nutshell is a little more about how to be creative and enhance your workplace, school, and home. You don’t have to have a big pocketbook to be more creative. In fact, I think some of the most creative people come from lower income families because you learn at a young age how to be resourceful with what you have. Make sure to enjoy your time, know that this world we live in is an amazing place, full of adventure. The youth are watching us, and if we’re having fun and living life to the fullest, they’re inspired by us. The opposite is also true. If we’re not enjoying life, stuck in a dead-end-job that we hate, and we’re too scared to make a change, our kids see that too and think that’s how life should be lived.

I’m lucky because my dad worked his ass off so mom didn’t have to work for the majority of our upbringing. He didn’t really like his job per say but it paid enough for mom to have the freedom to get to do what she wanted. I watched her take classes during the day to further her spiritual mind, be able to visit our Grandma Rice weekly and sometimes twice a week. I got to see them grow really close as daughter in love (grandma would call her). I got to see my eldest bro’s music group performing on tour because mom would volunteer and I’d tag along. That example alone inspired me to want to be in that elite group by the time I got to high school, and is a major foundation in my performing abilities today. All of it wouldn’t have been possible without both of my parents part in the mix encouraging creativity.

However you decide to live your life, make sure you incorporate some creativity as it’s way more fun!

If you loved what you read and found any value today, I’d be honored if you’d share this with a friend or family member and leave comments on your favorite part!
