I had the honor of interviewing a confidence expert, Lindsay Lombardi. You can connect with her on Instagram @Lindsaylombardi or go to her website. She LOVES helping women especially getting ‘fit from the inside.’
Straight out of Philly and authentic as ish! I absolutely loved our chat. This woman is a master in the fitness arena and wants to help you win! I wanted to share with you some golden nuggets she shared with me.
I’d appreciate it if you’d share this post and comment below on the tips that you’re going to incorporate into your life, health, or business!
What advice would you give to our readers who want to improve in their mindset?
#HackingTip 1: Listen, read or go attend a Mel Robbins event!
Mel coined the term 5 Second Rule and has been speaking all around the world on how she’s transformed her family, finances and confidence by this simple tool. Check out her video here.
Mel had lost confidence in herself during the 2008 financial crisis. Her and her husband were fighting all the time and she was getting drunk just about every night. She was inspired by a commercial she saw one day involving a rocket ship and the rest is history.
Move HappyTM is about building community. What advice do you have about building a healthy community?
#HackingTip 2: Use social media to your advantage! Message people that are like minded, follow people’s pages that you want to learn more from and incorporate that in your local community. Another way to build community is to join a Meet Up
Move Happy™ is also about fitness for life, even if your budget is tight. What’s your favorite way to move your body?
#HackingTip 3: Find free fitness events in your community, youtube, do at home workouts, there are so many ways you can find free fitness events. Sometimes even paying $10 or ‘by donation’ can be the best experience.
Over this past weekend, I (Erin) took a vacation to Miami. I joined a drop in sunrise yoga class. OMG it was SO relaxing! I looked into the benefits afterwards because it felt so good to close my eyes and have the warmth of the sun on my eyelids. I actually found there are a ton of health benefits to sunrise yoga! Check it out here. If you happen to visit Miami and want to join the class, check it out here.
PS: The class was by donation too and was packed!
Erin: Any other tips you want to share with our audience?
#HackingTips 4: Mindset doesn’t change in one day and happiness is a choice.
We must work at it continuously daily in order to improve in our mindset and our happiness. As we focus on daily intentional practice we will begin to notice gradual changes. These changes do not happen overnight and neither do drastic changes occur if we do nothing. As David Byrd often says, “You’re either growing or declining. No one stays the same” (leading business coach of fortune 500 CEOs).
This tip reminded me of my time in my undergrad school. I had a really tough time transitioning from high school to college. The work load seemed unbearable, the music program was SO different than what I was used to, my 2 best friends that I spent most of my free time with decided to not go to the University I chose, and my grandma’s cancer took a turn for the worse.
Looking back, I recognize now that I was depressed.
My English 101 instructor listened to me complain one day and asked if I journaled. I told her I did every now and then but not recently. She encouraged me to start journaling my feelings. I didn’t want to at first because I felt like all the homework I was being assigned and my part time job were keeping me too overwhelmed; not to mention visiting grandma in the hospital almost everyday.
But I decided to try it because well… what I was doing wasn’t working…
After I started journaling I started to write down everything that was happening in my day and I’d end with something that went well. I began to notice my mood started to change. I really liked how this made me feel. So I started bringing my journal with me everywhere and whenever I started to feel sad or anxious, I’d pull out my journal and write 10 things I was excited about or grateful for. One of my classmates kind of poked fun of me but I didn’t care. For me, I needed to do this.
Overtime, I started to notice when others would complain and I could quickly be able to find something good in the situation (the silver lining if you will). I would point out the positive and they didn’t always like what I had to say. I learned that not everyone wants to change their attitude and to choose my battles. As for me, I had found a golden ticket towards my own happiness: Gratitude and positive intentional journaling.
When I was creating the Move HappyTM program for my patients in the psychiatric hospital, I knew the personal benefits of journaling and how they had impacted me. I wanted to provide a similar experience for my patients.
So I searched online for things like “what is happiness?” and “what are the key ingredients of happiness.” I also asked my colleagues (licensed mental health therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, recreational therapists, occupational therapists) for the key ingredients of happiness. After careful research and review from my peers, I developed The Move Happy Participant Journal(C). The journal is designed to move the individual towards happiness through their own thoughtful reflections, writing down their inner desires and struggles, and focusing on what things they are personally capable of doing.
The Move Happy Facilitator Program(C) is 4 days a week for 16 weeks and the journal reflects this timeframe. You can purchase the journal by itself or get the entire program including 60+ video demos of the workouts and curriculum laid out step-by-step here.
If money is tight for you but you’d still like to have access to the journal, you can get it free by subscribing to my e-newsletter here.
My desire is to transform the world by helping those with depression be empowered to change their mindset and paying it forward to other people. I recognize I cannot do it alone and need your help. If you download the journal for free, all I ask is that you share the impact with your friends/family/ social media community if its made a positive impact for you send them my link to purchase so I can continue creating programs that make the world better.
